Call to order at 7:35
Members present were George James, Tom Sherer and Maureen Plumleigh
Minutes of previous meeting accepted as written
New business
The commission needs members.
The end of year report was discussed and accepted as revised.
Maureen will write a letter to the Rogers Lake Authority.
The letter will touch on the subject of dead weed disposal, specific plans for the lake bed blankets, and a request for information about a “save our lake” license plate. Finally, there will be a request that the Long Term Plan for Rogers Lake be sent to lake residents for their comments and suggestions.
The draft of the Recommended Town Plan of Conservation and Development 2020 was discussed and several changes were recommended. Once those changes are made, the document will be presented to the First Selectwoman for action.
Maureen identified Eastern University as sponsor of an environmental action program which we could participate in.
Tom noted that the school district is considering a plan for rooftop solar panels.
Maureen asked if the Commission should start planning now for Memorial Day activities. Anu’s pollinators display was mentioned and George reported on a Bee Action Organization sponsored by Friends of the Earth.
Neonics, one of the major causes of bee collapse, is a chemical found in a long list of popular brand sprays. Bee colony collapse directly affects our food chain nationally.
Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
